The organza fabric comes out dull for me too. Try hand coloring them in
ReplyDeletewith permanent markers. That might brighten them up. Since the book will probably not be washed, you could paint on them too with acrylic paint diluted with water to give a water color effect. Good luck! xox Corrine
Thanks Corrine the only problem is i have so many of them and i have seen others that are ok i just cant remember where.....im waiting for one person to get back to me from stitching fingers x
ReplyDeleteHi Jensters, sorry you have been disappointed with the colour you got from your fabric printing. I think I read somewhere if you are happy with the CONTRAST on your photo printed out on paper, then increase it +25% prior to printing on fabric. Having said that, I've not tried it, so can't comment. The colour comes out better on silk or cotton fabric rather than the organza. I have also printed an image on the organza, and the exact image on a sheet of Sheer Heaven [it's a little like plastic paper]. The Sheer Heaven takes the colour beautifully, and if put 'behind' the organza, intensifies the image. I'm intending to work some light embroidery on the organza, but wanted stronger colour, so hope this way will look okay. Again, project not finished, so no definitive comment.
ReplyDeleteI am fairly sure it's the organza that's causing the 'softness' in colour. If your printer can have the colour load altered, then perhaps you may be able to do that [mine doesn't]. Good luck, and look forward to seeing what it all looks like.
Hi Jen, I agree with what Linda says. I have used the organza & cotton and find the cotton is better but you do need to make adjustments to your printer. I will see what I can find out for you in that regard. I also tend to put an appropriately coloured piece of fabric behind the organza. i.e. if the printed image is of a person perhaps a pale pink behind lifts the image. I also stitch either by hand or by machine to hightlight elements. Hope this helps. The last fabric printing I did was on a piece of dupioni silk which I had fused to some heavy vilene. Your need to check whether your computer will accept this though. Is the book to be completely done with fabric? If not printing the image onto paper as well works to give the piece more body. I will give this some thought while we are out today and if I come up with anything else I will let you know.
ReplyDeleteHi Jen.... I have only ever printed on cotton fabric, and I have always used a product called "Bubble Jet" that helps to "set" the ink.... I won't be of much help to you with this seeing as you're using organza, however, I did a search and came across this.... link at the end of comment... hope it helps... wishing you success! Hugs...

I am going to follow your project with a great interest, it is something I would like to do for my children sometime.
ReplyDeleteOh wow so much to take in.....god i dont know what to do now HELP :-(
ReplyDeleteJennie you can enhance the hue and saturation and contrast on photoshop ....i always print straight onto fabric using my inkjet printer I cut a piece of freezer paper A 4 size then iron the fabric on white cotton works best and calico i also sometime print on voile although sometimes the printer doesn't like it ...the colours always come out a little faded but I think that's part of the charm of printing on fabric ...the other way is to enhance the pics then print them onto computer transfer paper ...be careful though as this way the prints come out back to front so you have to reverse them ...there is a setting on my printer to do this......when you use computer transfer paper the print you iron on is kinda plastic not as nice as printing straight on fabric ...
ReplyDeletemy honest opinion is that you enhance them then print straight onto white cotton or calico and enjoy their subtle qualities ....good luck ...xx
Hi Jen, Sorry I am not experienced in printing on fabric, but the one time I tried Sharon Boggon from Pintangle was a big help. Maybe if you email her personally she might have a solution. I will follow your progress. Love your new look blog.
