A Sad Day........

.

.......for me today as four years ago i lost my wonderful Dad who meant the world to me.......his first wife died of TB the mother of my two Sisters......then my Dad brought six of us up when my Mum left in 1963 and he never remarried or had another lady in his life.......it was a hard childhood but a very happy one....my Mum had a first marriage too having two Sons one went with his father and Ian came and lived with my Dad and my Mum even left him for my Dad to bring up! She had left and was never to be seen again i was only 18months old, she told my elder brother she was goning for fish and chips and never come back.....we laugh to this day if anyone says they are getting fish and chips 'make sure you come back' we would say!.

After 40 years i
decided to trace her and belive me it was hard but i got lots of help from wonderful people on Genes Reunited....who managed to find a Cousin i contacted her and was told she had died but her sister was alive at the age of 90....to cut this story a little short as i feel im rambling now....we spoke and then had a wonderful reuion that meant so much to me as i now had photo's and found out what happened to her.

She had gone off with another man and had a Son.....now thats another story.....Poor man i managed to trace him and he had no idea of all these brothers and sister he had....my mum had carried her guilt around with her and took it to her grave.

Well thats a little about my background....hope you didnt mind reading it....somtimes i need to air it....thanks for listening.

Love you Dad for making me who i am today xx

  5. What a very special man your Dad must have been. Ours was too - and yet, even though it is nearly 22 years since we lost him, we still feel he is with us in all we do.

  6. Your Dad sounds like he was a wonderful man and it's lovely to hear a little about your childhood. It's sometimes hard to look back and bring up old memories - I lost my dad in 2000 - there's not a day that goes by that I don't miss him though I often think through my problems with him knowing in my heart what he would say. Thinking of you x

  7. Jen, it is nice to get to know you a little more... I know it's hard to talk about these things. They are so close and personal. But it sounds like your father was a very strong, loving man, one who taught you about the important things! I understand why you would miss him so much. Have a good day, Jen!

  9. Hello Jen, I am quite new to your blog, your story is very moving, it's brave of you to share it.

I must say on your wedding renewal day photos, you don't look old enough to be a Grandma. They are lovely photos.

  10. Your Dad would not want you to be too sad so remember how wonderful he was and what he gave you too. My Dad left my Mum when I was 3 and I never had much contact with him until much later in my life. It does stay with you all through your life so you have been very strong in sharing it with us all here. xx

  11. Hi Jen, you were brave to look for and find your lost relatives, it must have taken a lot of courage to see people with a connection [if only in 'genes']. It is also extremely brave of you to share this story with the outside world. We all wish you well through this day, and into the future. I can understand why you miss your Dad so much. Sending kind thoughts your way.

  13. Oh, Jennie, what a story. I am reading Margriet de Moor. A similar story with a woman to vanish for one year. But she came back but ended sadly.
I love your story and I love you for telling it.

  17. Hi Jen... thanks for sharing, it takes a strong person to share something so personal, however, it only serves to reveal you yourself are a caring person to feel the need to share... your Dad is definitely a special person... and as for your half brother, it may be a shock, but finding loving family members can only bring joy to one's life and I hope he can build a relationship with his new family. Hugs.
